Statement No: 38(8/98)

1. The Minister  for Home Affairs invited the Chairman of the National 
League for Democracy  " to  meet him today (24-8-98) at 13:00 hours at 
the Office of the Ministers in Theinbyu Road to coordinate matters 
relating to current events  ".

2. Two members of the Central Executive Committee represented the 
Chairman of the NLD and positions taken by both sides were reciprocally 
presented.

Statement No: 37 (8/98)

1. It is now thirteen days ( commencing from the 12th  of August 1998), 
that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, General Secretary of the National League for 
Democracy and her party have been illegally prevented from proceeding on 
a peaceful journey on a public highway.

2. On the 21st, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's personal physician reported that 
her health was in grave danger.

3. Her doctors were unable to get permission to  go to her on the 22nd 
and the 23th. Yesterday (23.8.98) the Chairman and her doctor approached 
the authorities for permission to go to her but failed to get any 
response up to this minute. However, attempts are still being made to 
enable her doctor to visit and attend to her.

4. The members of the National League for Democracy and all their 
friends are desperate for the return of the General Secretary to her 
home because of her deteriorating state of health.
