(1)		Myanmar Traditional Bow and Arrow Exhibition Opens

		In commemoration of 1998 World Ranking Asian Achery Circuit First Round
Competition, Myanmar Traditional Bow and Arrow Exhibition was opened at
Thuwunna Youth Training Centre in Yangon on 28 August. Myanma traditional
handicrafts are on display at the exhibition so that visitors can study
history of bows and arrows of Myanmar nationalities in a short time. Together
with paintings, traditional bows and arrows which were used by Kachin, Kayah,
Kayin, Chin, Mon and Shan nationals are also being displayed at the
exhibition. Visitors can also study documentary photos on Bagan era murals
depicting bows and arrows, which were found at ancient Bagan pagodas, photos
featuring the encouragement given by the State to archery competitions, the
activities of Myanmar Archery Federation with the help of the government and
medals won in international archery competitions. Chairman of Organizing
Committee for 1998 World Ranking Asian Archery Circuit First Round Competition
Chairman of Myanma Olympic Committee Minister for Sports formally opened it.

(2)		LG Information and Communications Demonstrates CDMA System

		LG Information and Communications Ltd of Republic of Korea demonstrated
their CDMA telephone, CDMA cellular telephone and network system of CDMA at
Communications and Postal Training Centre, Myanma Posts and Telecommunications
on 28 August.

(3)		MMCWA Donates Cash toward Flood Relief in ROK, PRC

		A ceremony to donate cash for flood relief in Republic of Korea by the MMCWA
was held at the ROK Embassy on University Avenue on 28 August. Ambassador of
ROK Mr Kyong Bo Choi accepted the donation and presented a certificate of
honour to the Vice Chairperson of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare
Association.

(4)		Course on Water Management for Cotton Cultivation  Concludes

		On the Spot Training Course on Water Management for Cotton Cultivation
conducted under technical cooperation programme between the Ministry of
Agriculture and Irrigation and Israel concluded at Lunkyaw Model Cotton Farm
in Kyaukse District, Mandalay Division, on 27 August. Thirty trainees from the
ministry attended the course.

(5)		Globe-girdling Aviator Recounts Experience 

		Thomas Claytor, an American who is trying to fly round the world in a small
plane met reporters and recounted his experience at the Strand Hotel in Yangon
on 28 August. He said he set out from America to fly round the world in a
Cessana-180 on 2 December 1990 and is trying to be recorded in the Guinness
Book of Records. He said he arrived Yangon via Dhaka, Bangladesh, at 4.30 pm
on 27 August and as soon as he arrived Myanmar, he had a complete peace of
mind and he felt confident on seeing smiling Myanmar people. He noted that he
also found Yangon clean and beautiful and girdled in an atmosphere of peace
and pleasantness. He then replied to queries raised by reporters.

                        OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 28 AUGUST

(A)		Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission received Deputy General
Manager and Senior Engineer Wang Zhi Yuan and party of Qingdao Textile General
Corporation of the People? s Republic of China at the MIC Office. They
discussed main points and opportunities of Foreign Investment Law for
production of thread.   
                              
(B)		Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs received Director Mr WC
Kin and party of International Systems Business of LG International
Corporation of Republic of Korea at his office.

(C)		Minister for mines received Director and Secretary Mr Eng Pado Marone and
party of International Marble Institute of Italy at his office.

(D)		Minister at the Office of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development
Council  received Member of the House of Representatives of Japan Mr Shingo
Nishimura and party at his office. They discussed progress of current myanmar
economy and future prospects, Asian monetary crisis affecting Myanmar and
other countries and friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
