1998 	

(1)		Contract Signed to Lease Ywama Steel Mill to National Industrial Holdings
	      Ltd

		The No.3 Mining Enterprise of the Ministry of Mines and the National
Industrial Holdings Ltd on 30 August signed the contract on the lease of Ywama
Steel Mill.  Encouragement is being given to the private sector, which plays a
crucial role for national economic development, and is essential to privatize
the State-owned enterprises.

(2)		Culture Course for Women Concludes

		The Culture Course for Women co-sponsored by the Myanmar Theravada Buddhist
Missionary Central Committee and Myanmar National Working Committee for
Women's Affairs concluded at Shweyinaye Thathana Beikman in Bahan Gyatawya
Street, Yangon on 30 August.  Altogether 200 trainees attended the three-month
course.

(3)		AV New Products Seminar Held

		Panasonic Monsoon Promotion Closing Dinner & AV New Products Seminar
organized by Matsushita Electric Co Ltd was held at the Hotel Equatorial on 30
August.

(4)		New Giordano Shop Opens

		A new Giordano shop opened at Saleroom No S-21, Yuzana Plaza, Tamway
Township, on 30 August.  There are now 16 Giordano outlets, which sell Hong
Kong-made T-shirts, shirts, jeans, hats, shoes, belts and children's clothes.

(5)		Myanmar to Take Part in Asian Badminton Championships

		National badminton team left Yangon for Thailand by air on 30 August to take
part in 1998  Asian Badminton Championships to be  held  in  Bangkok  from 1
to 5 September.

(6)		Myanmar Equestrian Team Arrives Back

		Myanmar selected equestrian team arrived back Yangon on 30 August after
attending horse racing and jockey course and races of Hong Kong Pony Club of
Hong Kong Jockey Club.  Altogether 170 trainees from the People's Republic of
China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand attended the course.  Myanmar team
won two first prizes and second, third and special prize each.
