(1) Ten Villages in Mon, Kayin States Electrified on Self-Reliance
Tarana Village and eight nearby villages in Kyaikmaraw Township, Mon State,
were electrified on self-reliance on 2 September. A ceremony to mark the
power supply of the villages took place at the village. Chairman of Mon
State Peace and Development Council Commander of South-East Command formally
electrified the villages. The electrification project began on 7 October 1996.
To date, 1,039 lampposts were put up and 11 transformers installed. Seven
villages in Mon State and three villages in Kayin State now get electricity.
The commander and party proceeded to the Gyang River Bridge (Zarthabyin)
Project. The suspension bridge which is 2,900 feet long can withstand
60-ton loads. The motorway is 24.5 feet wide and clearance under the bridge is
40 feet.
(2) Sedae Buddhist Delegation of ROK Arrives
A 12 member Buddhist delegation led by Chief Editor of Sedae Buddhist News
of the Republic of Korea Venerable Monk Tak arrived Yangon on 6 September to
study promotion and propagation of Theravada Buddhism in Myanmar .
