THE MILITARY REGIME IN BURMA CRACK DOWN YOUTH ACTIVISTS

The military regime began arresting former key activists of DPNS of
Mandalay division in May and June this year.  The following key activists
of DPNS were arrested and have been charged with prison sentences of seven
years and up:  
      1. Ko Nyein Chan
      2. Ko Yar Kyaw
      3. Ma Thida
      4. Ma Ommar

During July, August and September Military Intelligence personnel entered
and searched the houses of former DPNS activists in Upper Burma. Former
members live under constant threat and many cannot stay in their homes but
have been forced into hiding. The authorities are continuing to arrest
former DPNS activists. In August the following activists were arrested:
      1. Ko Aye Ko
      2. Ko Tin Ko Aung
      3. Ko Min Nang
      4. Ma Ni
      5. Ko Kyaw Soe

In Rangoon division one former DPNS central committee member and three key
activists were arrested in the first week of September.

We have also been informed that about 100 former DPNS members of Rangoon,
Mandalay, Pegu, Sagaing, and Delta Regions were arrested in the first week
of September.

The names of those arrested will be released later.
