Another Two Senior Burmese Military Officers Arrested

Burma's State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) arrested
another two senior military officers yesterday, according to

The two were arrested in connection with 15 other officers
detained last week for attempting to meet with Daw Aung San Suu
Kyi. One of the two newly arrested officers is Colonel Myo Myint,
Region 4 Commander of the Rangoon Military Command. The latest
arrests bring the number of officers arrested to 17.

The news of the arrests of senior military officers is widely
known in Rangoon, and local people await further news with
interest.

On September 5, the 15 senior military officers were detained for
attempting to meet with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and were also
accused of deviating from the junta's current policy on the call
by the National League for Democracy to convene parliament.
According to military sources in Rangoon, the fifteen were
arrested under the order of Lt. General Win Myint, Secretary 3 of
the SPDC.

Meanwhile, five high school students from Tamwe township, Rangoon
were arrested yesterday for leading a demonstration on September
