YIT (Yangon Institute of Technology) and GTI (Government Technical
Institute) students in Rangoon finished their exams today and are
currently
holding a political meeting inside the YIT university compound. Before
all
students have to leave for home tomorrow, the students are planning to
hold a demonstration this evening.
The Military Intelligence has already learned of the meeting, and 400
riot
police and soldiers have been deployed at the Agricultural Research
Dept.
compound, just opposite YIT. Among them are sixty riot police from Riot
police force No 6, 30 police from Rangoon western district police and 20
police from Hlaing police station. Two fire trucks from Hlaing and two
from North Oakalapa have arrived in this compound. There are 6 firemen
on
each truck. Rangoon Deputy Divisional Commander Col Thura Myint Maung
and
Police chief U Aung Nwe are commanding the troops at the gate of YIT.
Fire brigades throughout Rangoon have been ordered to have their trucks
on
stand by. USDA members have also been assigned to take security duty in
different places near YIT.

Parami - Mindama road - two companies
Insein-Parami raod- one company
Tha Mine intersection - one company
Shwe Gon Daing (Special Branch) Damayone - one company
AD-Parami- Pyi road - one company
Sinmalite (highway bus station)- one company
Saw Bwa Gyi kone (highway Bus station) - one company
There is another student gathring at Hledan intersection now.
The ABSDF has also learned that three special operation battalions
consisting of 900-1000 troops have recently been set up under the
command
of Rangoon Divisional Commander Khin Maung Than. Two of the battalions
are
based in Hmawbi and one in Syriam. In case of unrest, they can block the
two main roads in and out of Rangoon and seal off the city.

Because of heavy rain, dams in nothern Burma (Kachin state) and
north-western Burma (Sagaing Divion) are in danger of bursting. Dams in
Pakoku, Gangaw, Sagaing, Khandi, Myitkyina, Myin Mu, Bhamo are of
particular concern. If these dams break, lots of farms and homes would
be
flooded. Authorities have ordered the local people to evacuate from a
number of places near the dams.
