[email protected]: The Byamma's He

Dear OKKAR (or what ever your real name is),

Since the SLORC (now called SPDC) loss the free election in 1988 the same
way byammamin loss the bet, wouldn't it be more accurate and appropriate
to refer the SPDC as byammamin? I could go on point by point with the
similarities between SPDC and byammamin, but why waste time. Please
re-read the story you posted.

Cheers,

The Byamma's Head - 1

Thagyamin (King of celestial beings) and Byammamin ( King of Brahmas)
engaged
in a dispute over a maths calculation which led to a challenge for a bet
between them. Kawalamaing Sayagyi had to act as a judge. As Byammamin
lost the
bet, he was beheaded according to the agreement. It was said that the
Byamma's
(Byarnmamin's) Head is terribly hot. All the oceans would be dried up if
his
Head would be put into water. And the world will be scorched if it would
be
put onto the land mass. So the Thagyamin ordered his four female
celestial
beings to hold the Head in turn not to let it fall onto the land or into
the
oceans. As the Head is terribly hot, a single female celestial being
cannot
hold it for more than one year. So the female celestial beings holding
the
Head have to be changed every year.

It is one of the legends of the Orient. Some Oriental people have assumed
that
the time the Head is handed over from one female celestial being to
another is
the beginning of a new year.

Some of the Oriental countries including Myanmar observe Thingyan (water
festival) at that time and the people of that nations throw water on each
other.

But what I want to state here is not about the Thingyan, but for the
Westerners to understand this legend. The most important part of this
legend
is the Head of the Byamma. Even the great oceans cannot accommodate it as
it
is terribly hot. The day the Head lands on earth is the doomsday for the
world. Thus, the Head is being held in turn by female celestial beings
who
have the divine powers (who can withstand such terrible heat), said the
legend.

In Myanmar tradition, a person. who is always giving trouble to every
person
is called the Byamma's Head. Sober hoodlums, hecklers, bullies, and
persons
who borrow money from whom they meet are always referred as the Byamma's
Head.
If someone is dubbed the Byamma's Head, all Myanmars understand that he
or she
is dangerous, loathsome, horrible, troublesome, unfavourable and
undesirable.

There is one of the Byamma's Head in Myan'mar these days. That Head of
the
Byamma has not lived in the nation constantly. Together with her mother,
she
had left Myanmar for India in 1960. She married Mr. Michael Aris, a
British
citizen, in 1971.

Mrs. Aris, who is suitable to be compared with the Byamma's Head, made no
contacts with Myanmar till after she gave birth to two mixed-race sons.
She no
longer concerned with Myanmar soon after her marriage with the foreigner.
It
was heard that she never forged any relations with overseas Myanmars
because
of her disdain toward those Myanmar communities abroad.

If we say with much compassion on her, she was not entitled to be the
Byamma's
Head until before she returned to Myanmar. Giving her mother's health as
the
reason, she came back to Myanmar only in 1988. There were disturbances in
Myanmar and anarchy was starting to rule the nation. She has become the
Byamma's Head after holding a mass meeting on the western stairway of
Shwedagon Pagoda.

On 18 September 1988, the Tatmadaw saved the nation which was at near
disintegration at that time. Mrs Aris and her circle were angry on the
Tatmadaw for restoring state power. In reality, it was even late for the
Tatmadaw to take over the state duties. I think that terrorists would be
arrested earlier had the Tatmadaw taken over the state duties sooner.

Mrs Aris has continued to oppose the Tatmadaw which was endeavouring to
maintain community peace and law and order at that time. She branded the
Tatmadaw Fascist, inciting outbreak of disturbances during her propaganda
campaigns. Security was the most important requirement for the nation
during
the time. The public wanted to sleep soundly with peace of mind and to
get
sufficient food. It was vital for the public to earn their living with
peace
of mind. Mrs Aris was walking on the path toward confrontation, holding
the
policy to create disturbances everywhere.

The government took action against her under section 10 (b) on 20 July
1989 to
save the nation from dangers of her who was trying to destroy the nation.
Although its was understood as house arrest, Mrs Aris could live in her
home
in free and safe. Action was taken for inciting civil unrest. Myanmar
cannot
let the anarchy of 1988 disturbances to rule the nation again. The
government
took action against her to defend the nation from dangers of destructive
elements as she has become harmful for the nation.

Maintenance of national peace and stability has gained momentum soon
after
action was taken against her. Disturbances have died away gradually in
the
nation and peace and stability prevails. One by one, the armed groups in
the
jungles have exchanged arms for peace. The economy began to develop.
There has
been an increase in the number of investors, putting millions of dollars
in
Myanmar's economy. Social changes and developments can be seen
everywhere.
Myanmars can make donations continuously with immense generosity due to
flourishing of the Sasana.

The government as a show of compassion revoked the restriction order on
her on
10 July 1995 It was likely that the government revoked the restriction
order
as it thought that was enough for her: Did the government seem to forget
that
she is the Byamma's Head? First, she destroyed the National Convention.
She
ordered delegates of National League for Democracy to walk out from the
National Convention.

If NLD delegates would not have boycotted the National Convention it
would
have concluded successfully by now. Mrs Aris has strictly followed the
path to
confrontation under orders of the Western Europeans. She alleged that the
peace agreements reached between the government and armed groups were
just
imitations, stating these agreements as a cauldron. She tried to prevent
the
remaining peace-minded armed groups from making peace with the
government. She
is just preparing a battle ground for bloody armed conflicts.

Occasionally going on picnics by car, she is trying to recreate the
disturbances of 1988. She tried to cause unrest from Gyogone to Myenigon
via
Hline and Hledan areas. Mrs Aris is happy whenever a fight brokeout. She
is
spurring her audience to enter Bandoola Park as the world would know her
destructive acts Only if they were staged in front of the American
Embassy.
Some came to the park and waited for her as they believed the rumours
floated
by Mrs Aris that she would come and cast dollars there. In reality, Mrs
Aris
slipped away from the area after drawing her own dollars from the bank
account.

Oh Mrs Aris!

"Do you know this year is not 1988? It is the year 1998. Ten years have
passed. You are like the terribly hot and loathsome Head of the Byamma.
Your
presence in our country will prevent people from living in peace of mind.
Thus, you, Mrs Aris, should understand that you are suitable only for the
deportation order."
