Thai, Myanmar to Develop Border Towns as Tourism Spots

            BANGKOK (Nov. 2) XINHUA - Thai and Myanmar authorities
            plan to join hands to develop border towns as tourism spots. 

            The plan to promote tourism along the border was raised by
            Myanmar military leaders during Sunday's religious
            ceremony celebrating a replica of ancient Shwe Dagon stupa
            in Myanmar's Tachilek Town, The Bangkok Post reported
            Monday. 

            Myanmar wants to use the 50-metre-high stupa as a selling
            point to draw tourists to Tachilek. 

            Deputy Commander of the Thai Third Army Maj-Gen Suthin
            Chankrachang and Governor of Chiang Rai Province
            Wicharn Chaiyanant, who led the Thai delegation to the
            ceremony, promised to cooperate with Myanmar to develop
            the border areas and proposed Myanmar launch promotional
            activities.
