   Senior General Than Shwe attends opening of Bala Minhtin Bridge built
across Ayeyawady at Myitkyina Development in Kachin State to be enhanced
       to by 2688-foot bridge built at a cost of K1077.9 m and U$5.9m

                   


YANGON14 Nov-A ceremony to inaugurate Bala Minhtin Bridge (Myitkyina)
constructed by
the Public Works under the Ministry of Construction was held at the pandal
near the bridge at
Maingna, Sitapu, Myitkyina, Kachin State, this morning, addressed by
Chairman of State Peace
and Development Council Commander in Chief of Defence Services Senior
General Than Shwe. 
    Also present were Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development
Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt,
Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, members of the State Peace and Development

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe met local
authorities and
officials in Myitkyina and gave guidance for progress of the agriculture
sector yesterday. 
    He was accompanied by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development
Council Lt-Gen Khin
Nyunt, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, members of the State Peace and
Development Council
Commander-in Chief (Navy) Rear-Admiral Nyunt Thein, Commander in-Chief

    They flew from Mandalay to Myitkyina yesterday morning and arrived
there at 9.15 am.

    The Senior General and party were welcomed by member of the State Peace
and Development
Council Chairman of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Commander of
the Northern
Command Maj Gen Kyaw Win, military and civilian officials and family members.

    The Senior General took the salute of the Guard of Honor of the
Northern Command and
inspected it. The Senior General gave guidance on agriculture services and
projects to Kachin State,
district and township authorities and departmental officials at the meeting
at Myitkyina Town Hall at
10 am.

    The Senior General said the purpose of their tour was to attend the
inauguration ceremony of
Bala Minhtin Bridge built for socio-economic development of the residents
of Kachin State
and provide the government's support for economic and regional development
of Kachin State.

fourteenth day at Tatmadaw Convention Hall on U Wisara Road from 9 am to 5
pm today.
Students of the Defence Services Officers Testing Team, Basic Education
High School- No 2 of
Kyauktan Township, BEHS No 3, BEHS 1 and 2 of Pabedan Township, members of
Union
Solidarity and Development Association of Kamayut Townships Red Cross
Brigades of
Kyimyihdine and Seikkan- Townships, monks and lay people visited the
exhibition.

    The exhibition will continue till 30 November.

                         More NLD members resign

YANGON, 14 NOV- Twenty members of National League for Democracy of Dedaye
Township resigned from the party on 11 November 1998.

    They are: U Thein Soe, U Aung Maw, U Shwe Myint, U Win Kyi, U Hla
MvintU Than Oo, U
Thein Htay, U Zaw Win, U Khin Sein, U Than Chaung, Daw Mya Aye, U Kyaw
Thaung, U Kyaw
Win, U Ohn Than, U Win Htay, U Htay Win, U Ohn Nyunt, U Ni Tut, Daw Nan and
U Thein
Myint.

    They notified the Dedaye Township Multiparty Democracy General Election
Commission Office
and the respective party chairman saying that they had resigned from the
party out-of their own
volition since they no longer wished to continue to participate in
political activities of NLD.
