(1) Japanese Entrepreneurs Leave
Chairman Mr. Tomoo Takahara of Japan-Myanma Economic Cooperation Committee
of Japan and party left Yangon on 23 November. The first joint meeting of
Economic Cooperation Committees of Japan-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and
Industry was held during their stay in Myanmar. Myanma economy and Japan-
Myanmar economic relations, prospects of Myanma industrial development and
trade opportunities were discussed. The Japanese entrepreneurs visited
industries and workshops in Yangon and Mandalay.
(2) Shanghai Women's Association Observes Work of MMCWA
The visiting delegation of Shanghai Women's Association led by Chairperson
Ms. Meng Yankun of the People's Republic of China called on Chairperson of
Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association (Central) Vice-Chairperson and
Central Executive Committee members at MMCWA multi-purpose building on 24
November. They discussed the aims and the undertakings of the MMCWA and SWA.
The delegation visited departments of MMCWA (Central) building and Women's
Development Centre of the Social Welfare Department. They then proceeded to
Kyauktan Township MCWA, Yangon South District, in the afternoon. The
delegation observed the activities of the association there.
(3) Evaluation and Pre-production Meeting for ASEAN in Action V Concludes
The closing ceremony of Evaluation and Pre-production Meeting for ASEAN in
Action V was held at Mya Yeik Nyo Royal Hotel on 24 November. At the closing
ceremony, papers on radio broadcasting submitted by delegates of ASEAN member
nations were assessed and approved.
(4) Second Myanmar IT Exhibition 99 to be Held
Second Myanmar IT Exhibition 99 will be held at Tatmadaw Convention Hall on
U Wisara Road from 14 to 17 January with the aims--to disseminate computer
technology among the public, to systematically develop correct computer
technology, to keep track of international technology development, to enable
domestic companies to display computer technology, to exchange technology with
international companies and to build favourable foundations to establish
thriving Computer Industry. Foreign and domestic companies will take part in
the exhibition. Companies and associations wishing to participate in the
exhibition may register not later than 15 December 1998. The first day of the
exhibition will be held specifically for personnel from departments of the
Government, private economic enterprises, companies and hotel and tourism
services, and those wishing to attend the exhibition may register and get
invitation cards on the first floor, 197 (B), 33rd Street.
(5) Secretary-1 Receives Vice-Prime Minister of LPDR Minister of Foreign
Affairs
Secretary -1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin
Nyunt received Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao
People's Democratic Republic Mr. Somsavat Lengsavad and party at Dagon Yeiktha
of the Ministry of Defence at 4 pm on 24 November.
(6) Minister for Information Meets Delegates from ASEAN Nations
Minister for Information met delegates of ASEAN member nations, who
attended the Evaluation and Pre-production Meeting for ASEAN in Action V held
at Mya Yeik Nyo Royal Hotel, on 24 November.
