Burmese democracy leader appeals for more international support

The leader of the National League for Democracy in Burma, Aung San Suu Kyi,
has appealed for greater international support for her party's campaign to
persuadethe military government to convene the parliament elected in 1990.

In a videotaped interview with Reuters news agency, Aung San Suu Kyi said
statements by the military that dialogue was impossible were just the latest
in a string of excuses to avoid talks.

The military government has meanwhile announced what it says are more
resignations from the National League for Democracy.

Burmese state media say four-hundred-and-sixty-seven members quit the party
last Wednesday.
