Khun Sa Paralysed

Report coming from Rangoon indicate that Khun Sa a.k.a Chang Chifu, who
surrendered to the Burmese military on 7 January 1996, is suffering from
paralysis.

Even during his hey-day as the undisputed overlord of the Mong Tai Army, he
was also hurting from diabetes, rheumatism and high blood pressure. "At
present, his right arm and leg are totally immobilized, and he has to be
spoon fed," said the source. "He also has to be put on a wheel to go
anywhere".

His second son, Zarmhurng a.k.a Chang Wei Kang, flew from Tachilek where he
is working to Rangoon to personally take care of his father.

Military doctors are also paying visits to administer their treatments.
However, some of his former officers fear that he might be given the wrong
treatment, "like he had done to people who posed as rivals eg. Kornzurng,
Sai Lek and Gunjade".

Washington has been demanding his extradition to the United States to face
trial on drug charges. "He has become a liability instead of an asset, and
they might feel relieved to get rid of him", said the source.
