Statement on the SPDC's attempt to hold the Dhamma Sariya Examination at
the State and Division Levels
(1) The All Burma Young Monks Union strongly
denounces the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC)'s attempt to
hold the Dhamma Sriya and Pali Examination at the State and Division
levels in 1999.
(2)
SPDC is using the State Sangha Maha Nayaka
(Senior Monk Association) as a culprit while they are attempting to ruin
the reputation of the examination by attempting to organize it at the
State and Division levels.
(3)
This attempt is contrary to the slogans of the SPDC
claiming that they are working hard on preserving religion. It also tries
to damage the pariyahtti Sasana that is the most fundamental among the
three Sasanas. This could lead to the elimination of the whole
Sasana.
(4)
While these actions are taking place, many monks who
have called for recognition of Pariyahtti Sasana as a State religion, the
return of donations and precious jewelry unlawfully taken from the
pagodas and the release of detained monks, were rounded up recently. The
partial list of detained monks is as follows;
Buddhist monks in Burma have taken a role of support
for the people, throughout history. ABYMU would like to request the
cooperation of the people in the struggle for safeguarding the Sasana of
