Host to kids of Myanmar militants?

KIA's members sending their youngsters for education in India at the expense
of Ulfa and in exchange of a hideout? Or are only top KIA officials doing
this mixed investment?

Hope someone online could comfirm this is true or not. If it is true, some
funding agencies around the world, including BurmaProject-OSI,
BurmaProspect, should help these students. Otherwise, their comingling with
Indian internal security problems will deifinitely and abruptly end their
peaceful pursuit of education, which is not at all possible in Burma during
this era.

Help Kachin youngsters in need.

ULFA playing host to kids of Myanmar militants since 1990
Guwahati, December 14 (Darshan Balwally)

THE BANNED United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has been playing host to
children of militants from Myanmar since 1990.

This has come to light after security forces seized, among incriminating
documents, a few letters sent by some teenaged children belonging to members
of the Kachin Independent Army (KIA) of Myanmar.

Arunchal Pradesh and Nagaland have borders with the Kachin State of Myanmar
but children of KIA members have been studying in educational institutions
in Assam with ULFA members playing guardians. The KIA has been imparting
training in guerrila warfare to Indian insurgent outfits for nearly five
decades beginning with the Naga underground. The Myanmarese outfit itself
has been trained allegedly by Chinese Red Army. Among the letters recently
found by the security forces were two written by Pradip, an alias, to ULFA
member Babul Neog who escaped the ambush laid by Major Zameer Khan on August
26 at Dibrugarh. One letter appealed to Babul to send him home, as it had
become difficult for the student to continue his studies due to lack of
funds.

Pradip informed Babul that his dream of becoming a doctor would not fructify
due to paucity of funds. I cannot carry on like this.... for last two days
there was no rice.... I am very ill and have no money... The youth also
informed Babul Neog that he had discussed with his Professor of Biology for
private tution in the subject necessary to pursue medical studies. Pradip
informed Babul that it was essential that he got good marks in biology to
ensure his entry into a medical college.

Some children of the KIA and other outfits are also studying in Jorhat,
Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts apart from Guwahati. The ULFA takes care of
all expenses of these students as a kind of pay-back for safe havens
provided by the KIA and training to its new members. According to security
forces some of these students had come with ULFA commander-in-chief Paresh
Barua in 1991. However, the ULFA leaders were finding it increasingly
difficult to act guardians of these students as the security forces have
been cutting off lines of communication, funds among others.

Meanwhile, the banned National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) has
cautioned the Royal Government of Bhutan against cooperating with the Indian
armed forces but denied its hand in the deaths of a Bhutanese Army major and
two others recently. In a faxed message to local newspapers here yesterday,
the NDFB has blamed the Indian security forces for the deaths of the
Bhutanese Army personnel stating that the security forces were trying to
create disaffection against the freedom fighters among the Bhutanese
populace .

The Bodo militant outfit also expressed consternation at Bhutan King Jigmye
Wangchuk s alleged agreement to cooperate with Indian Government and
security forces to push out militant outfits from the Himalayan kingdom. The
NDFB also said that the traditional bonds of friendship and inter-dependent
economy of the two regions would be seriously affected unless the Royal
Kingdom of Bhutan desisted from cooperating with the Indian Government.
Meanwhile, insurgent outfits, including the United Liberation Front of Asom
(ULFA), have begun to move Ms Madhusmita Das, widow of Rubul, subsequently
told a prominent daily newspaper published from Jorhat that Rubul was
preparing to leave for Myanmar when Assam police apprehended him with
assistance from some surrendered ULFA youth.

The member outfits of the Indo-Burma Revolutionary Front (BRF) are providing
Assamese insurgent outfits with safe conduits and havens along the
Indo-Bangla and Indo-Myanmar borders.

The IBRF members include the NSCN (K), the Kangleipak Liberation Army, the
United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and the National Liberation Front of
Tripura (NLFT).

In return for such favours, the Assamese outfits are assisting the member
outfits in their battles against security forces in several northeastern
States.
