(1)		News Briefing on 6th ASEAN Summit, Ministerial Meetings Held
		Minister at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman
Brig-Gen Abel and Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung briefed the
ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions and local and foreign journalists
on the 6th ASEAN Summit held on 15 and 16 December in Hanoi and ASEAN Foreign
Ministers Meeting, ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting and ASEAN Foreign
Ministers and Economic Ministers Joint Meeting which took place prior to the
Summit, at the new building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 1 pm and 3
pm respectively on 23 December. At the news briefings, Minister for Foreign
Affairs delivered a statement on the 6th ASEAN Summit and the ASEAN Foreign
Ministers Meeting which preceded the Summit and on the Hanoi Declaration
signed by ASEAN leaders and released by them. Minister Brig-Gen Abel briefed
on the ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting and the statement on measures to be
taken by ASEAN in all seriousness. Ministers replied to queries of the
ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions and local and foreign journalists.
In his closing address at the meeting with the ambassadors and heads of
diplomatic missions, Minister for Foreign Affairs lauded the government and
people of Vietnam for the successful completion of the Summit and thanked them
for warm hospitality.
(2)		Myanmar Health Research Congress Ends
		The fifth and final day session of the Myanmar Health Research Congress was
held at the Department of Medical Research on 13 December. Fifteen papers were
read at the congress on final day. Prizes were given to winners for their
papers and posters. Minister for Health presented best paper awards on basic
research, and applied research, health system award and best poster award to
winners. The paper reading session was held for five days beginning 19
December.
(3)		Boat Race and Exhibition to Mark Diamond Jubilee of Universities Boat
Club (Yangon)
		A ceremony to open exhibition to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Universities
Boat Club (Yangon) was held in front of the building of Universities Boat Club
(Yangon) on Inya Street on 23 December in conjunction with a boat race,
attended by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary -1 of the State
Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. Secretary-1 formally opened
the boat race and exhibition. Rowing teams from Yangon University, Yangon
Institute of Technology, Dagon University, University of Culture, Institute of
Nursing (Yangon), Institute of Education (Yangon), Institute of Medicine,
Botahtaung College, Hline College and Kyimyindine College took part in the
boat race.
(4)		Han Myanmar Electronics Co Ltd Opens Showroom of National Panasonic
		Han Myanmar Electronics Co Ltd opened National Panasonic showroom at the
Aung San Stadium in Mingala Taungnyunt Township on 23 December. General
Manager of National Panasonic (Myanmar) Representative Office Mr. Izumitani
and Director of Han Myanmar Electronics Co Ltd spoke on the occasion. Then,
Minister for Livestock and Fisheries , Minister for Sport and Mr. Izumitani
formally opened the showroom and inspected it. National Panasonic electronic
materials will be sold at the new showroom from 9 am to 5.30 pm daily.
