Burmese democracy leader dismisses defections

The leader of Burma's National League for Democracy, Aung San Suu Kyi, says
the party has not been damaged by the resignation of several hundred of its
members.

She told the BBC that they were a tiny proportion of the party's members.

She added that they had never been active in the organisation.

Aung San Suu Kyi also accused the government of reporting the resignation of
people who had never been members of the party.

The National League for Democracy has started a lawsuit against Burma's
military intelligence authorities, charging them with forcing party members
to resign.
