(1)		Privatization Commission Meets 

		Meeting No. 1/99 of the Union of Myanmar Privatization Commission was held
in the meeting hall of the Ministry of Defence on 25 January afternoon.
Undertakings which respective departments cannot run effectively are to be
transferred to national private entrepreneurs who are financially strong and
can deal  with foreign counterparts, thereby contributing to economic
development of the State. National private entrepreneurs are able to think and
decide freely and carry out works effectively. Encouragement is to be given to
enable national private entrepreneurs to engage in efforts  for the economic
development of the State.

(2)		New Building for BEPS No 7 in Dawbon Township Opened

		A new building for Basic Education Primary School No 7 opened at the school
in Dawbon Township on 25 January. The concrete L-shaped three-storeyed
building, 108 feet long and 28 feet wide and 80 feet long and 28 feet wide, is
built by Minami Construction. The building includes 21 classrooms, an assembly
hall, an office, three rooms for teachers and 12 toilets. TV is also provided.

(3)		Seminar on Reinsurance 

		Myanma Insurance and Swiss Re of Switzerland cosponsored a reinsurance
seminar on 25 January at the former's head office, addressed by Minister for
Finance and Revenue. Also present on the occasion, were Deputy Minister for
Finance and Revenue, Governor of Central Bank of Myanmar, Managing Director of
Mynama Insurance, General Manager of Swiss Re Mr. Silvius von Lindeiner,
officials and guests.  

(4)		45th MMA Conference Continues 

		45th Conference of Myanmar Medical Association being held at MMA building
continues on 25 January. Professor Dr. Myo Myint and Col Ye Thway presided
over the meeting.  Specialists and the Deputy Minister for Health answered the
queries. A total of 19 papers were presented to the meeting. Those present
took part in the discussions on treatment on alimentary tract.

(5)		Workshop on Safe Motherhood and Cancer Screening Opens

		The opening ceremony of Workshop on programme on Safe Motherhood and Cancer
Screening, co-sponsored by Ministry of Health and Singapore Volunteers
Overseas Programme was held at the meeting hall of the Central Women's
Hospital on 25 January.


(6)		Minister Meets Director-General of Foundation for Welfare and Education
of Asian People

		Minister for Immigration and population met Director-General of Foundation
for the Welfare and Education of the Asian People, Mr. Toyojiro Soejima,
Refugee Assistance Headquarters (RHQ) and two members who called at his office
on 25 January.

(7)		Professional Golfers from Foreign Countries Arrive

		Professional golfers of foreign countries arrived Yangon by air on 25
January to take part in the London Myanmar Open Golf Tourney. Eleven players
from Japan, nineteen from Korea, six form the United States, eight form
Thailand, four from Australia and one each form Malaysia, the UK and Sweden
were welcomed at Yangon International  Airport by officials concerned. More
professional golfers of other countries are due to arrive Yangon on 25
January.
