Shans, Karens and Mons NOT invited to the Interpol Heroin Conference

Rangoon Post 2/10/1999

Interpol's leaders still did not comment on international condemnation
of their choice of location. Mr Iqbal Hussain Rizvi, Interpol Drugs
Liaison Officer based at the General Secretariat Drugs Sub-Directorate
(tel.No. (33) 4.72.44.71.76,Fax No.(33) 4.72.44.72.57, E-Mail:
d2sd3@xxxxxxxxxxxx ) and others contacted did not responded to requests
or demands about allowing the ethnic groups attend the conference.

These groups, the Shan, Mon, Karen, et.al. are in the middle of these
drug producing areas. The Shans told the international community they
would assist in drug suppression with the international community. Yet,
they still remain unanswered. Shouldn't the non-burmese people of the
Golden Triangle attend this conference??
