Date March 5, 1999.

Bangkok: A group of exiled Burma lawyers on Thursday called on the
country's military rulers to repeal all national security laws used to
detain opposition members.
The call by the Bangkok-based Burma Lawyers' Council followed the
reported arrest of three top opposition National League for Democracy
members of Parliament last month. "The three MPs have been charged under
the notorious section 5(J) of the 1950 Emergency Provisions Act for
'undermining the security of the union'," the lawyers' council statement
said. The junta arrested three NLD members last month, according to
exiled opposition groups. (AFP)
