China-ASEAN Joint Cooperation Committee to Meet in Malaysia

               KUALA LUMPUR (March 15) XINHUA - The second
               China-ASEAN Joint Cooperation Committee
               meeting will be held in Malaysia beginning
               Wednesday, the Chinese Embassy here said in a
               statement Monday. 

               The two-day meeting in Kuala Lumpur will review
               the progress of cooperative relations and also
               decide on new cooperative projects between China
               and ASEAN, the statement said. 

               Assistant Foreign Minister Wang Yi will lead China's
               delegation to the meeting, it said. 

               The joint meeting served as a full-range cooperation
               mechanism established after China became a
               formal dialogue partner of ASEAN in 1996, with its
               aim at expanding and deepening exchanges and
               cooperation between China and ASEAN members in
               all fields. 

               Malaysia is the coordinator for China-ASEAN
               dialogues. ASEAN groups Brunei, Indonesia, Laos,
               Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore,
               Thailand and Vietnam. 

               The China-ASEAN Joint Cooperation Committee
               held its first meeting in Beijing two years ago.
