(1)		Secretary-1 Pays A Goodwill Visit to LPDR
		At the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Boungnang Volachith Vice-Prime
Minister of the Laos Peoples Democratic Republic, Lt-General Khin Nyunt
Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar
to pay a goodwill visit left Yangon by air on 22 March morning at 9 am to
LPDR.
(2)		10th Disabled Sports Meet Opens  
		The 10th Disabled Sports Meet was opened at Aung San Stadium on 21 March.
Minister for Sports delivered a speech and formally opened the competition.
The minister presented prizes to winners. Swimming Competition will be held on
23 March.
(3)		MOC Chairman Receives HK Olympic Committee Chairman
		Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports received Chairman
of Hong Kong Olympic Committee Mr. Temothya Fok in the Jade Hall of the
National Indoor Stadium 1 on 21 March. They discussed matters relating to the
sports sector in the two countries.
(4)		MGF President's Trophy Golf Championship Concluded 
		The prize presentation ceremony of Myanmar Golf Federation President's
Trophy Golf Championship was held at Hanthawady Golf Club (Bago) on 21 March,
attended by President of MGF and executives and guests. Officials concerned
presented prizes to the outstanding golfers. 
(5)		Myanma Gems Emporium Gets Over US $ 6m from Sales
		A total of 35 lots of pearl were sold by tender system. So far, gems, jade
and pearl lots were sold by tender system and through competitive bidding.
Altogether 500 merchants -- 364 merchants of 206 companies from 17 countries
and 136 local merchants of 69 local companies -- attended the Myanma Gems
Emporium.
(6)		Second Workshop on Promoting Sale of Myanmar's Lesser-used Timber
				Species in World Market
		The Second Workshop on promoting the sale of Myanmar's lesser-used timber
species in the world market jointly conducted by Forest Department and
International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) was held at Forest
Department in Yangon. Director General of Forest Department formally opened
the sale of Myanmar's lesser-used timber finished products. The sale continues
till 22 March.
(7)		Executives of UMCCI and MIPA Leave for LPDR, Singapore
		A delegation led by Joint General Secretary U Hla Myint of Union of Myanmar
Chamber of Commerce and Industry and party and members of Myanmar Industrial
Prouducers Association left Yangon on 21 March by air for Lao People's
Democratic Republic to attend Regional Design Forum 99, for promoting small
and medium industries in South-East Asia, to be held in Vientiane from 22 to
29 March, co-sponsored by Chamber of Skilled Craft Koblenz of Germany and
Chamber of Commerce and Industry of LPDR. Similarly, Joint General Secretary U
Zaw Min Win of UMCCI and a member of MIPA left on 21 March by air for
Singapore to attend International Workshop on Consultancy Services, Business
Matching, Subcontracting and Franchising for SME to be held from 23 to 25
March in Singapore, at the invitation of Singapore-based German ZDH
Partnership Programme.
(8)		Myanmar Business News No.3 Brought Out
		The third issue of Myanmar Business News of the Union of Myanmar Chamber of

Commerce and Industry has come out. It is for free distribution to UMCCI
members, affiliated organizations, State organizations and others. It carries
trade news, survey on Myanmar manufacturing firms, Myanmar gems and jade,
challenges faced by the private sector and UMCCI news.
