Burmese Democracy Activist Seeks U.N. Help

BANGKOK -- Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi says U.N.
rights officials
must move to stop what she calls the "criminal activities"
of Burma's ruling
                  military against its political opponents.

In a videotaped message to the Geneva-based U.N. Human
Rights
Commission, Suu Kyi called 1998 the worst year in the
decade for
repression by Burma's military government. Her opposition
party is in tatters
and hundreds of its members are in jail.
