             Thailand, Burma, Laos in
             drugs talks 



             Ministers from Thailand, Burma and Laos are meeting in
             Bangkok later today Tuesday for talks on combatting the
             production and trafficking of drugs. 

             Burmese officials expressed concern at preparatory
             talks on Monday over increased domestic consumption
             of metamphetamines. Other countries in the region had
             previously accused the Rangoon authorities of ignoring
             the problem because most of the metamphetamines
             produced in Burma were exported. The three ministers
             are expected to adopt a joint declaration reiterating their
             commitment to fighting illicit drugs and promising to step
             up joint operations in border areas to suppress the flow
             of metamphetamines in the region.
