SPDC Kidnappers demand ransom

The Burmese Foreign Minister, U Win Aung, says the military government will
release jailed MPs and members of the opposition National League for
Democracy, if the NLD agrees to dissolve a parliamentary committee it formed
last year.

The ten-member committee was set p to represent members of parliament who
were elected in 1990 but never allowed to take their seats.

A spokesman for the NLD, U Tin Oo, has rejected the offer.

Sources in Rangoon estimate that there are some two-thousand political
prisoners in Burma, mostly members of the NLD.
