</center>Asean and the European Commission will begin their 13th
Joint Cooperation Committee meeting in Bangkok on Monday, with limited
participation by Burma, Laos and Cambodia, the Foreign Ministry said
yesterday.

The JCC has not met since Burma joined Asean in July 1997, a move the EU
fiercely opposed because of Rangoon's failure to democratise and respect
human rights.

Three previously scheduled meetings have been called off.

Burma, Cambodia and Laos will attend the May 24-27 meeting as
nonsignatories to the Asean-EC Cooperation Agreement.

Discussions will include future cooperation in science and technology,
industry, trade, investment, economics, and education and training of the
basis of "partinership for progress
