                     MUSLIM LIBERATION ORGANIZATION OF BURMA
Statement on the 9th Anniversary of the1990 general election in Burma

                                                       May,27, 1999.
Today is the 9th Anniversary of the 1990 multi-party-general election held
in Burma by the ruling military regime, SLORC/ SPDC which took over power
in 1988, after massacring several thousands of innocent people. The
election was fair and free which was won, with landslide victory, by the
National League for Democracy(NLD) led by Nobel Laureate Daw Aung San Suu
Kyi..

The military regime, however, refused to honour its promise to hand over
power to the NLD. In stead, the regime has been drafting a" fake"
constitution since early 1993, through a convention of hand-picked
supporters of the military regime. In the meantime, the people have been
suffering from widespread violations of the human rights . The entire
people live in a climate of misery, starvation and fear that involves the
risk of arrests, interrogation and even life.

To restore peace and prosperity in Burma, we strongly support the
Committee Representing the People's Parliament (CRPP) and we recognize its
lawful rights to convene the parliament as per the 1990 general election
results.

We urge the military authorities, to avoid further miseries and bloodshed
of the innocent people, to immediately release all political prisoners and
hold a tripartite dialogue with the NLD led by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and
representatives of ethnic nationalities to resolve the political problems
of Burma.
