Burma bans European foods

Burma has become the latest South East Asian nation to ban food products
from Europe because of the contamination of some foods with the poisonous
chemcical dioxin.

The Burmese health ministry said the ban takes immediate effect, and
involves such foods as meat, eggs, dairy products and chocolates.

Correspondents say Burma imports only tiny quantities of such items, but the
ban brings it into line with other countries in the region, including China,
Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines.
