YANGON (June 14) XINHUA - First Secretary of the
Myanmar State Peace and Development Council
(SPDC) Lieutenant-General Khin Nyunt left here
Monday for South Africa to attend Wednesday's
inauguration ceremony of the newly elected
president of that country Thabo Mbeki.
At the invitation of President Nelson R Mandela,
khin Nyunt is to take part in the ceremony on behalf
of the Myanmar SPDC Chairman Senior-General
Than Shwe.
Accompanying Khin Nyunt are Minister at the SPDC
Chairman's Office Brigadier-General Abel and
Foreign Minister U Win Aung, official Radio
Myanmar reported Monday night.
Myanmar and South Africa established diplomatic
relations on April 20, 1995, and South Africa is one
of the 10 countries with which the Myanmar military
government established such relations since it
came to power on September 18, 1988.
