MAILBAG: An American Tourist's Burma Experience

Dear Julien,

	How are you ? Thanks so much for all your emails.
Well, I have met the American Couple who just came back from Pagan.
	Both of them are Buddhists and they went there for meditation.They
took
some pictures with their digital camera.
	They said that they found the people in Pagan  poorer than the first
time they
went to Pagan about 4 years ago.
They wanted to take the picture of some monks but the monks asked for
US$ 4/- per picture . Child prostitutions are quite popular there too .
They saw a small girl about 4 years old and she was wearing Burmese
costumes . So , they took the picture of hers . Suddenly, the mother
came out from somewhere and asked for US$ 10/- .
	There was a guy approaching them . He said that if an American gay man
who
visits Burma is interested to meet Burmese guys , he can arrange
everything for them (including place) . Then, the American couple asked
him," Why did they
do this kind of job ?" . The guy answerd that their families are poor .
Both the parents are working but can't even support  their families .
They
can't continue studies  and can't find the job as well.
So, they end up in this situation.I felt so sad about that . I didn't
even hear that before .
