Subject: border trade volume decreased for first quarter

Burma border trade volume decreased for the first quarter of 1999/2000
fiscal year

Border trade volume of Burma decreased for US $ 3.94 million compared with
the same period in 98/99 fiscal year. 

Burma aimed to get 20% increase in trade volume for coming year. But,
recent data shows there is no increase and even fall. 

Burma to increase in border trade opened three new border custom posts: one
at Loi Je on China border, one at Myawaddy on Thai border and another at
Sittwe on Bangladesh border.

Followed are the data of  border trade volume for the months of April, May
and June 98/99 and 99/2000.
