Myanmar Reiterates "One China" Policy

               YANGON (July 16) XINHUA - A spokesman for the Myanmar
               State Peace and Development Council said that Taiwan is
               part of China and that Myanmar will always pursue the
"one
               China" policy. 

               Lieutenant-Colonel Hla Min made the remarks Thursday
               evening at the Japanese Self Defense Forces Day ceremony
               when giving his comment on Lee Teng-hui's recent
               separatist remarks on cross-Strait relations. 

               Hla Min stressed that China is Myanmar's good neighbor,
               and Myanmar's existing policy is to strengthen and
develop
               friendship and cooperation between the two countries. 

               The Myanmar government will stick to the "one China"
stand
               as before, he added.
