YANGON, Myanmar (AP) -- Myanmar's military government
accused pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi on
Thursday of betraying her father, who was assassinated 52
years ago while leading the country to independence from
               Britain.

Suu Kyi, winner of the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize, marked the
anniversary Monday of the death of her father, Gen. Aung
San, who was killed in an attack by a political rival.

Official media continued a string of attacks on Suu Kyi
over
the anniversary, again labeling her a traitor Thursday.

"Though national heroes gave up their lives for
independence, Gen. Aung San's daughter, Suu Kyi, married
a Briton and became the puppet of colonialists," a
               commentary said.

"The people today are witnessing the children of the
slain
leaders begging for cash and prize awards from the
colonialists and attempting to cause the disintegration
of the
country and the loss of independence," the commentary
               said.

Suu Kyi's husband, Michael Aris, died of cancer in March.
His requests for a visa to see his wife for a last time
were
               denied by the regime.

Suu Kyi was vaulted to the leadership of the
pro-democracy
movement by anti-government riots in 1988 that were
bloodily repressed by the military, which has Myanmar --
also known as Burma _ since 1962.
