SPDC not ready for dialogue

It is not difficult to understand what
the SPDC really want. On the one hand
they want to appear ready for a dialogue
but actually they have no wish at all to
have dialogues with Aung San Suu Kyi,
NLD, UN, USA, EU or any body who
promotes democracy. Democracy in Burma
is the end of the power of the high
ranking officers of the Burmese Army.
Whatever they do they do it to hold on
to power. They close the universities
and colleges mainly to stop the students
from demonstrating on the streets. They
were brought down by these
demonstrations once before and they are
not going to allow something to happen
again. They have the guns and they will
use it effectively "shot to hit (Ne
Win)" and possibly much more brutal
than 1988 when they shot and killed
atleast 3000 peacefully demonstrating
people.

The SPDC knows the people of Burma
rejected them in the 1990 election and
the people are doing it again and and
again by their expressions and mood. We
read every day the postings of "Okkar,
the voice of the SPDC". Many members of
the NLD
gave up their membership because they
are forced to do so. Those who gave up
the NLD membership did not do it
willingly. NLD members cannot hold jobs
in Burma and faced consistent harassment
by the police and intelligence services.
Those who stick to membership lost their
human rights and many officially gave up
their membership because they want to
live. They simply want to go on living.

It is difficult to understand why the
NLD and the international community even
demand and expect the SPDC to come to
the table. The SPDC understands what
other similar authoritarian rulers
understand.

Complete boycott of the
SPDC by the people and mass civil
disobedience are the only option open
for the opposition. Likewise the
international community knows what is
effective for treating authoritarian
dictatorships.

Demands, requests,
rational, and civilized gestures only
encourages the SPDC to keep on doing
where they have been doing for the last
forty years. Do not expect any rational
moves from the SPDC.
