Burma Interferes in Ethnic groups Yet Urges non-interference

Rangoon Post 28 July,1999

The SPDC's Foreign Minister, Win Aung speaking at the ASEAN
meeting in Singapore said ASEAN's partners should understand that in
order to advance relations with his country, they must respect the
organisation's principles of non-interference, mutual respect and
non-discrimination.

Except that the SPDC military (tatmadaw) employs many methods of
interference of the affairs and the 130+ ethnic group within that
region. The Shan, Karen, Arakan, Chin, Mon and many others have been
fighting to keep out the 'Interference' of the SPDC and its military in
their affairs and lives.

There is an old western saying, "Practice What You Preach". Meaning,
the SPDC should stop intefering in the affairs of the seperate ethnic
groups before the world should or will stop interfereing in theirs.
More and more, the voice of every group and every person is becoming
very important to the world. No longer can the world stand by as unique
groups, ethnicities or people be killed by the government or unelected
dictatorship of that country.

Kosovo is only the most recent example of this.
