Pyapon Township declared Free of NLD

YANGON, 25 Aug-A ceremony to submit resignation letters of members of
National League for Democracy of Pyapon Township,Ayeyawady Division, was
held in conjunction with a ceremony to declare that there were no NID
members left in Pyapon Township.

    After sending resignation letters to the party concerned, 114 NLD
members handed over letters of resignation to Chairman of Township
Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission U Thit Lwin on 15 July
1999 and 123 NLD members followed suit on 5 August 1999 as they no longer
wished to participate in 
the party politics of NLD.

    Former township NLD organizer U Tun Shwe explained that 3,789 NLD
members of Pyapon Township resigned from the party on 5 August as they no
longer wished to participate in the party politics of NLD and there were no
 NLD members left in the township.

    Chairman of the township election commission U Thit Lwin recorded the
explanation of the former township NLD organizer.
