(1) Secretary-1 attends opening ceremony of tile factory in Thayawady
YANGON, 3 Aug - A ceremony to open the tile factory of Myanma Ceramics
Industries under the Ministry of Industry-1 was held in the compound of
Thayawady Ceramics Factory Thayawady, Bago Division, this morning, attended
by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung reported on background and products of
the factory and the aims of building the factory such as effective use of raw
materials, import substitute, minimizing the use of foreign currency, how
much the factory contributes towards improvement of living conditions and
development of technology for production of tiles, and the sizes of tile and
amount of production.
Managing Director of Myanma Ceramics Industries U Than Shwe reported on
functions of the tile factory, investment, installation of machinery,
capacity of the factory, the test-run of the factory, the amount of the
products, production process, raw materials and annual production target.
Then, the ceremony to open the factory was held. The Secretary-1 formally
unveiled the sign-board of the factory. Managing Director of Myanma Ceramics
Industries U Than Shwe and Mr Ubaldo Pannacci formally opened the factory.
Then, the Secretary-1 and party and guests toured the factory and inspected
production process of wall tiles and floor tiles, machinery and production
process.
Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party and guests went to Thayawady Ceramics
Factory, and inspected production of ceramics. Minister for Industry-1U Aung
Thaung presented gifts to the Secretary-1 and party.
The tile factory occupies two-acre plot-in the compound of Thayawady Ceramics
Factory in Thayawady, Bago Division.
Machinery was imported from Nassetti SpA Company of Italy, and GPN of
Pannacci Ubaldo Company of Italy undertook the test run of the factory.
The test-run of the factory began in July 1999; the factory produces wall
tiles and floor tiles with the sizes of six square inches, eight square
inches and 12 square inches; the annual production is 1,000 square meters;
and the annual production of tiles of eight square inches is eight million
slabs.
Next, the Secretary- 1 and party went to the site of reclamation of
Pogatoe-gontar wetlands being undertaken by Myan Naing Myint Agricultural
Group in Letpadan Township.
Afterwards, the Secretary-1 urged regional authorities and personnel of
departments concerned to provide assistance for private entrepreneurs who are
engaged in reclamation of fallow and virgin lands and wetlands.
The board of directors of Myannaingmyint Company Ltd handed over a Nissan
Caravan . ambulance worth K 4 million to Commander Maj-Gen Tin Aye.
Then, the Secretary-1 and party inspected paddy fields of Myannaingmyint
Agricultural Group.
The Secretary-1 and party arrived back here in the evening.

(2) Seminar on development of industries of industrial zones continues
YANGON, 3 Aug 3 - The seminar on development of industries of the industrial
zones sponsored by Myanma Industrial Development Committee (MIDC) continued
for the second day today at the Ministry of Industry-2. Patron of MIDC
Secretary-2 of the State Peace and
Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended the seminar.
In the morning session, Deputy Director of Directorate of Investment and
Companies Administration U Kyaw Zaw gave talks on foreign and local
investment and General Manager of Myanma Industrial Development Bank U Kyaw
on disbursement of loans to industries.
Officials replied to queries raised by representative of industrial zones.
In the afternoon session, representatives of Meiktila, Mandalay, Yenagyoung,
Yangon West, Bago, Taungyi, Pakokku, Pyay an Pathein industrial zones an
Dagon Industrial Zone 2 presented accomplishments and requirements sector
wise.
The Secretary-2, ministers and officials looked into the requirements. The
seminar continues on 4 August.

(3) Agricultural works in Taninthayi Division coordinated
YANGON, 3 Aug-A coordination meeting on agricultural works in Taninthayi
Division was held at the Ministry of Transport this morning with Secretary-2
of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo in attendance.
In giving instructions at the meeting, Secretary-2 Lt Gen Tin Oo said
national entrepreneurs are now engaged in cultivation of oil palm rubber and
paddy on many acres of land in Taninthayi Division.
Not only local workers but also those from other parts of the country are now
at work in those fields, and so this meeting was to make arrangements to
enable workers to do their work
conveniently, he said.
Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan and officials
reported on agricultural works and arrangements for providing assistance for
the entrepreneurs in the division.
Managing directors and officials of Myanmar Rice Merchants Association, Steel
Stone Co, Po Kaung Co, CKB Co, Dagon International Co and SI Co and Tetnay Co
reported on their agricultural works in Taninthayi Division and machinery and
labour strength.
Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo to attended to their needs.

(4) Union of Myanmar and Republic of Minister meets foreign visitors
YANGON, 3 Aug -Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung
Thein met Expert of United International Group Ltd. of Thailand Mr Bunjonk
Nissapawanich and party who called at his office at 4.30 pm today. Similarly,
Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein met Chairman
of Corporation Franco Asiatique (CFA) Investments of Singapore Mr B Forey and
party who called at his office at 5 pm Today.
Also present at the calls were Deputy Minister U Aung Thein and directors
general, deputy directors general and officials of departments under the
Ministry.

(5) Deputy Minister inspects timber extraction areas, saw mills
YANGON, 3 Aug - Deputy Minister for Forestry Brig-Gen Soe Myint, accompanied
by officials, arrived at Bago Division south and north timber extraction
areas on 22 July.
He fulfilled the requirements for service personnel of the extraction areas
and inspected No 33 Saw Mill, No 104 Saw Mill, No 88 Saw Mill and No 89 Saw
Mill. At No 1 Training School in Nanchun, the deputy minister met trainees of
Assistant Manager ( Timber Extraction) Refresher Course 3/99-2000 and
inspected Pyinmana south and north timber extraction areas.
On 23 July, he inspected 59 Saw Mill in Yinmabin. The deputy minister met
entrepreneurs of wood and wood-based finished products in Tounggyi on 24 July
and Tachilek on 25 and 26 July.
He called on the Commander of Triangle Region Command and reported on timber
extraction and exports for wood and wood-based finished products in border
area.
Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Soe Myint inspected No 103 Saw Mill, Upper Myanmar
Forest Joint Venture Factory and Tokiwa Factory and gave necessary
instructions.
He inspected Hlinetet and Palek raft jetties. The deputy minister met
in-charges of extraction/saw mills of Mandalay and Sagain Divisions and
Kachin State and attended to their needs.
On 29 July, the deputy minister inspected Log-House of Hi-Tech Co in Madalay
Industrial Zone. He then met the Commander of North-East Command and reported
on timber extraction and exports for wood and wood-based finished products in
border area.
He met entrepreneurs at Muse Motel on 30 July and No 103 Saw Mill briefing
hall on 1 August.
On 2 August, the deputy minister inspected Taunggyi timber extraction area,
No 93 Saw Mill in Paungte and No 87 Saw Mill in Gyobin-gauk.

(6) Information Sub-committee of Traditional Performing Arts Competitions
meets
YANGON, 3 Aug -Information Sub-committee of the Seventh Myanma Cultural
Performing Arts Competitions held its coordination meeting at Myanma Radio
and Television this
evening.
Director-General U Khin Maung Htay made a speech. Joint Secretary of
Subcommittee Assistant Director (Production) of MRTV U Myint Oo reported on
formation of work committees.
Officials reported on work and the meeting ended with the concluding remarks
by the director-general of MRTV.

(7) Minister meets Ambassador of Indonesia
YANGON, 3 Aug-Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing met Ambassador of
Indonesia Maj-Gen ( Pol) A Poerwanto Lenggono (Retd), who had completed his
tour of duty, at the minister?s office this morning.Also present at the call
were Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win and
Deputy Director-General U Maung Win of General Administration Department.

(8) Minister meets Ambassador of France
YANGON, 3 Aug- Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing met Ambassador of
France Mr Andre Marie Bernard Amaudric du Chaffiest who called at his office
this afternoon. Also present at the call were Director-General of Myanmar
Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win and Deputy Director-General U Maung Win
of General Administration Department.

(9) Minister inspects Pre-primary School
YANGON, 3 Aug-Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen
Pyi Sone inspected No 5 Preprimary School in Tamway Township this morning.
Acting Director-General U Khin Aung of Social Welfare Department,
Headmistress Daw Khin Sein Cho, teachers, executives of Parent Teacher
Association and officials of Social Welfare Department welcomed him.
Accompanied by officials, the minister inspected academic matters at the
school. He spoke of the need to gave systematic training to the children for
their all-round development and to beautify the school compound with the
cooperation of PTA and the public.

(10) Minister for Energy inspects oilfields
YANGON, 3 Aug- Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi together with officials
arrived at Letpando oilfield in Pauk Township, Magway Division, on 30 July.
The minister inspected well No l-A gushing out oil and natural gas, progress
on control of the well and new site for drilling.
On l August, the minister inspected production of crude oil, petroleum
products and production of candle at the No 2 oil refinery. He proceeded to
the main oil storage depot of Myanma petroleum Products Enterprise and
inspected distribution of fuel oil.
In the afternoon, the minister met general managers of Chauk and Yenangyaung
oilfields and discussed production of oil and natural gas and future tasks.
The minister then inspected distribution of fuel oil in Magway. In the
evening, the minister inspected daily production of oil and natural gas at
Htaukshabin-Kanni oilfield and well No 197.
On 2 August, the minister inspected measures taken for Y2K in
computer-controlled system at the liquefied petroleum gas factory. The
factory will produce LPG after the year 2000.
He also inspected distribution of fuel oil and transport. In the evening, the
minister went to No 3 Fertilizer Factory (Kyawswa) and discussed boosting
production of fertilizer with the factory manager and staff.

(11) MCWA Supervisory Committee holds coord meeting
YANGON, 3 Aug-Bago Division Maternal and Child Welfare Association
Supervisory Committee and township associations held coordination meeting at
Hantha Thiri Hall in Bago on 30 July.
Present on the occasion were Patron of Bago Division MCWA wife of the
Commander of Southern Command Daw Kyi Kyi Ohn and members, chairpersons and
secretaries of 28 township associations in Bago Division and guests.
Chairperson of the meeting Patron Daw Kyi Kyi Ohn gave a speech. Chairperson
of Bago Division MCWA Dr Mya Than and Adviser to WHO Dr Kyaw Lwin explained
works to be done and facts about leprosy disease. The meeting ended with
remarks by the chairperson of the meeting.

(12) Iodized salt, rehydrated salt for DSGH
YANGON, 3 Aug- The Ministry of Mines donated one ton of iodized salt and 200
packets of rehydrate salt to Defence Services General Hospital in Mingaladon
this morning.
The donation ceremony was attended by Commandant of DSGH Col Tin Thein Lwin
and officials, Managing Director U Saw Win of Myanmar Salt and Marine
Chemicals Enterprise, on behalf of the Minister of Mines, and officials.

(13) Entries of Monsoon Colour Photo Competition scrutinized
YANGON, 3 Aug-A meeting to scrutinize entries of colour photos of Monsoon
Colour Photo Competition sponsored by Ministry of Information was held at the
meeting hall of Information and Public Relations Department at 10 am today.
They scrutinized 284 photos of 118 participants. The lists of prize winners
will soon be announced.

(14) Tatmadaw Agriculture Course No 36 concludes
YANGON, 3 Aug- Tatmadaw Agriculture Course No 36 concluded at Central Model
Paddy Farm of Myanma Agriculture Service in Hmawby this morning.
Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Ohn Myint gave a speech on
the occasion.
Also present were heads of department under the ministry, senior Tatmadaw
officers of Hmawby Station and course instructors.
The deputy minister presented prizes to outstanding trainees and certificates.
A total of 185 trainees attended the 14-week course.

(15) Conclusion of tour guide course on 6 Aug
YANGON, 3 Aug-The conclusion ceremony of the tour guide course No 1/99
conducted by Myanmar Hotels and Tourism Services under the supervision of the
Directorate of Hotels and Tourism of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism will
be held at 9.30 am on 6 August at Karaweik Palace.
Exam results of the course had already been announced at the training school
on Bo Sun Pat Street on 28 July.

(16) Narcotic drugs seized in Hsenwi
YANGON, 3 Aung-A combined teams comprising members of regional intelligence
units and Myan mar Police Force, acting on tip-off, searched the vehicle 5
Ka/ 9864 that left Mandalay for Muse at Yaypusan checkpoint in Hsenwi
Township in Shan State (North) on 21 July.
They seized a machine used in producing stimulants, 791.27 kilos of ephedrine
powder, 1,100.05 kilos of white chemicals and other dyes from driver Yaw Han,
son of U Naw Taung of Muse and owner of the vehicle Reng Hsaung (a) Reng
Khone, son of U Zone Reng of Mongkoe Township. Action is being taken against
them according to law.

(17) 86 members resign from Dedaye Township NLD
YANGON, 3 Aug-A ceremony to present 86 resignations of members of Dedaye
Township National League for Democracy, Ayeyawady Division, was held at the
office of Dedaye Township Multiparty Democracy General Election
Sub-Commission at noon on 3 June 1999.
Eighty-six members of Dedaye Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their own
volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to the party concerned
on 3 June 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of
NLD.
Member of Dedaye Township NLD U Thein Aung, on behalf of the party members,
handed over the letters of resignation to Chairman of Township Multiparty
Democracy General Election Sub-Commission U Ba Thein.
