CPR-A New Grading System for Students in Burma

Students in Burma need to fill up their marks in the new grading system apart
from their acquired marks in the examinations, reported SHAN source from
northern Shan State.

According to the new grading system, a student is also required to obtain a
Certificate of Personal Record (CPR) as well as his or her normal scholastic
grades, said the source.

"Marks are given to students who join the SPDC-sponsored Union Solidarity and
Development Association, to those who attend their meetings, marches and other
activities, to those who please their teachers and especially those who also
are paid students at the classes opened privately by these teachers", reported
the source.

"Those who have high marks in the CPR need not worry about not passing their
exams", added the source. "This is how the junta aims to keep rebellious
students in line".

General Khin Nyunt, Secretary-1 of the Council, is also Chairman of the
National Education Committee.
