SPDC:Idiot@xxxxxxxxxxxx (or) Monkey Business

When the SLORC (State Law and Order Restoration Council) became the
world's most reviled military government Lt.General Khin Nyunt and his
MI goons (military intelligence personnel), following in the footsteps
of their mentor Ne Win, devised a new decoy known as SPDC (so-called
State Peace & Development Council). The aim was to decoy all
international condemnations and criticisms away from their intended
targets. But so far nothing has changed except the meaning of its
acronym which is now known as Stupid Decoy. The ploy to distract
attention from their atrocities does not work; because SPDC alias Stupid
Decoy like its predecessor is as bad as ever.

It is very difficult to regain a lost reputation especially when the
Burmese military led by MI goons continue to violate all kinds of human
rights and the world community keep on throwing scathing criticisms in
their faces. In short, it is a case of "give a dog a bad name and hang
him", meaning if a dog bites or known to bite or is bad-tempered, it
might as well be killed as no one will trust it any more. Of course,
analogy and metaphor are perhaps still among man's most creative
potentialities.

When SPDC Foreign Minister Win Aung was recently asked about a much
talk-about billion dollar economic aid he furiously argued that he and
his colleagues were not a bunch of monkeys, that they won't give in for
bananas and that they won't swallow this kind of economic bait. As a
matter of fact, to put it mildly, the question of billion dollar aid
must have definitely put his monkey up. It is also clear that he and
his colleagues do not want to be treated as monkeys from a banana
republic despite the fact that he himself has become a big banana. But
they also seem to have realized that they have been made monkeys out of
by their critics. Mind you, somebody in Buffalo was recently reported to
have won $50 after he had been invited to click on a monkey icon during
his internet shopping. So don't worry, you can still become a rich man
if you charge $50 to everyone who calls you monkey. You can also beg for
rice and money by showing the monkey.[myauk pya hsan taung ]

Later on 9th August Lt.Gen. Khin Nyunt suggested that his country
would move toward democracy faster if Western nations cooperated rather
than maintaining a hostile policy towards Burma. In a speech at the
opening ceremony of a diplomacy course at the Foreign Ministry, he said.
"A careful and objective study will reveal that both sides have the same
aimâ?? the emergence of a democratic country. The difference is only in
the tactics to reach this goal," Khin Nyunt was quoted as saying. "If
these nations, which are trying to exert pressure and isolate Myanmar
through prejudice, adopt a positive attitude and assist Myanmar, we can
achieve our common goal more quickly".His attitude is poignantly
illustrateed in a Burmese proverb 'a lame man trying to climb toddy
palms is out of place'. [Chi kyo' htan tet ah kyo' me']

More often than not the world has heard Khin Nyunt and his cronies
shooting off their mouths on subjects about which they know very little
or nothing. And when they are at a loss what to say or what to do they
always blame Aung San Suu Kyi, NLD, and Western Democracies. What Khin
Nyunt actually suggested was "if you can't beat them, join them". Khin
Nyunt seems to have suggested that since the great powers cannot topple
him it is better for them to come over to his side and try to grab what
they can from the association. He would play ball with them. His
proposal also looks like a mutual back-scratching exercise. Khin Nyunt
may be trying to make monkeys out of Western democracies and Aussie as
he has started toying with the idea of his own "human rights commission
and democracy" which could be another monkey business. Only idiots
always thought themselves most clever.
