Forum urges Asian regional cooperation
Kunming, Agust 15
Officials and scholars from China, India, Myanmar and Bangladesh said here
today that the four countries should make joint efforts to accelerate
economic development and develop long-term relations of friendship and
cooperation. They made this call at an international forum on economic
cooperation and development among the four countries that opened here today.
More than 100 scholars, diplomats and entrepreneurs gathered at the forum to
discuss strategies and prospects for cooperation and development between the
four countries. They said that there is great potential for economic
cooperation between them, because all four are developing countries with
rich mineral, energy, agricultural and tourism resources. The four nations
also enjoy geographical advantages for developing economic cooperation, as
their mutual borders are located where China, Southeast Asia and South Asia
meet, forming a venue for economic exchanges. Experts said that closer
cooperation and exchanges will help the four countries make better use of
their resources and advantages. Over the past few years, a series of
cooperation projects, including dredging water channels and building
highways, have been launched in the four countries' border areas.
