0827-01 Singapore Invites Myanmar Fish Entrepreneurs for Training
**Three Myanmar fisheries entrepreneurs will soon be off to Singapore to
attend a 7-day training on Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points
(HACCP). The training will be conducted starting on the 22nd of November
until the 28. This is upon the invitation of Singapore's Primary Production
Department to Myanmar's Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries.

The HACCP is a post harvest technology in fish and fish products training.
The Myanmar Fisheries Federation is in charge of selecting the delegates to
Singapore.

0827-02 Malaysian First-Class Transformers Now Available in Myanmar
**Malaysian based Arab-Malaysia SGB Sdn Bhd Company signed sale contracts
with three local companies for the purchasing of transformers. This was done
after a seminar the company has conducted in Yangon on 25 August.

The seminar was organized by the Myanmar Federation of Commerce and
Industries (UMFCI).

Meanwhile, another Malaysian company, Alfa Laval (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd held a
coordination meeting with the minister and officials of ministry of
cooperative and discussed exportation of Myanmar crops, as well as the
importation of agricultural machineries, fertilizer and machine tools.
Matters to promote the bilateral trade was also discussed at the meeting.

0827-03 "Promote ASEAN as Combined Tourist Destination", Myanmar Urges
**"There were certain issues that we have deliberated with the general
consensus. One of them is to promote ASEAN Region as a combined tourist
destination", said Myanmar Minister for Tourism, Saw Lwin. The Minister
added, "I would like to support this idea because we have many similarities
in terms of culture, history, environment, and ethnic diversity. In fact our
region with combined efforts can promote tourism for further development."

The Minister attended the 10th National Tourism Organization (NTO) Meeting
where he gave the opening speech. Held in Yangon on 25th of August, this is
the first time Myanmar hosted the annual tourism meet.

Several items were also on the agenda. The ASEAN Task Force on Tourism
Investment Meeting was held and attended by the 23 delegates to the NTO.

There are also plans to stage an ASEAN Tourism Fair 2000. The ASEAN
Communications Team for Tourism (ACTT) is the coordinating body for the
affair.

0827-04 More Businesses Up for Privatization
**"The privatization commission is fostering private production business by
gradually reducing the number of state owned production businesses"
Secretary-1, Khin Nyunt stressed in his speech during the commission's
meeting on 25th August.

A number of Myanmar's large industries are state owned. More factories
however will be privatized to boost production and improve the quality of
the products.

The Myanmar Privatization Commission undertakes the privatization of state
owned enterprises, cinemas, factories and state owned services enterprises.

0827-05 British Garment Factory Now on Its 4th year
**A special sale will be mounted to commemorate the 4th founding day
anniversary of Myanmar Hwa Fuh International Limited in Pyinmabin Industrial
Zone outskirts of Yangon on 28th August, 1999. Over 15 categories of
ready-made garments will be up for sale.

Myanmar Hwa Fuh International Limited is a 100% British owned garment
factory engaged in the garment-marketing business. The management are Hong
Kong nationals. The factory's exports are mainly to Europe. Coats,
jackets,trousers, and skirts produced are all on European sizes.

Several multi-national companies like Daewoo, Segye of Republic of Korea,
Triumph International of Germany and from other countries like Indonesia.
Sri Lanka, Hong Kong and Singapore have invested in garment manufacturing in
Myanmar.

0827-06 Myanmar Forestry Journal To Be Published Again
**The Information Working Committee of the Ministry of Forestry will publish
the Myanmar Forestry Journal again. This is after they have stopped
production of the book for two years. It will be distributed to domestic and
foreign markets

Articles concerning the activities of the Ministry of Forestry, conservation
of the natural environment, conservation of wildlife, sites for eco-tourism,
facts about forestry, among others will included in the journal. Rare
photographs will be added in this latest edition of the Forestry Journal.

The Myanmar Forestry Journal is an informative guide to the developments in
Myanmar's forestry sector and is seen as an invaluable tool in aiding
serious investors in this sector.
