BEIJING (AP) - Chinese police have detained three dissidents in two
cities in the latest sweep against members of an outlawed democratic
party, a human rights group reported Thursday.

Police in the central city of Wuhan on Wednesday night separately took
away Chen Zhonghe and Xiao Shichang, the Hong Kong-based Information
Center of Human Rights and Democratic Movement in China said. It added
that the pair's whereabouts remain unknown.

Last week, police intercepted Quan Li, from northeast China near
Russia, as he arrived on the opposite of the country, tropical
Xishuangbanna on the Burma border, and he too has not been heard from
since, the group said.

All three are members of the 14-month-old China Democracy Party, an
opposition group the communist government has relentlessly attacked. Its
three most prominent leaders were jailed and sentenced late last year.
Arrests and trials of second tier organizers have quickened over the
past three months.

Twenty China Democracy Party members now in custody have either been
tried but not sentenced or are awaiting trial, the Information Center
said.
