- BURMA MILITARY SWELLS TO 450,000 TO INCREASE REPRESSION
in its growing effort to contain pressures to democratize. According to the
CIA, the SPDC spent US $380 million for defence budget for fiscal years 1997
and 1998. The military has been stepping up to crush its opponents,
systematically eliminaiting NLD members.
