0914-01 Myanmar: A New Centre For International Fish Trade
**High-ranking officials discussed last Friday the establishment of Myanmar
as an international hub for fisheries and related industries.

Secretary 2, Tin Oo, presiding over the meeting, urged for the development
of necessary facilities required to meet the international standard and to
initiate the modern fish market. He also stressed the need for paying
special attention towards the fisheries sector, as it is one of the most
lucrative sectors of business for Myanmar's economy.

The Yuzana International Fisheries Ltd, a leading fisheries company
discussed in the meeting its contribution in the development of fish
market.      

Myanmar's southern province of Thaninthayi, a vast coastal fishing spot, is
busy with the overseas cold storage vessels nowadays. Mon and Ayeyawaddy,
provinces also in Myanmar's southern part have relatively large fishing
reserves.

0914-02 Japan-Myanmar Business And Technological Discussion
**A 22-member business delegation from Japan's Business and Technology
Association discussed Myanmar's business restructuring, with the officials
of Union of Myanmar Federation Of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) in Yangon
on 10th September. 

The delegation together with the Chief Representative of Japanese Tokai
bank, which has its representative office in Yangon, were briefed by the
Officials of UMFCCI about the changing business climate and investment
opportunities in Myanmar. 

UMFCCI is member of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and also the
ASEAN Chamber of Commerce. In Myanmar it has 39 affiliates nationwide.     

0914-03 Hong Kong Tour Agent Promotes Myanmar 
**Hong Kong based Gold Joy Travel Ltd, an authorized tour agent for Myanmar
tourism promotion, is launching its campaign by putting ads in Chinese
newspapers, distributing flyers and pamphlet in major big restaurants in
Hong Kong. 
For package tour buyers the agency is giving free gift coupon for dining in
its 4 corporate restaurants in Hong Kong. 

The agency also sent its camera crews for shooting ads in Myanmar, which
will be ready to televise by this tourist season.

0914-04 Myanmar Glazed Ceramics For International Market
**A conference on Glazed Ceramics Of South East Asia and an exhibition for
glazed ceramics will be staged in Bagan, an ancient central Myanmar town.
Bagan is internationally known as the richest archeological site in Asia,
about 193 km south west of the upper Myanmar capital, Mandalay. 

The exhibition will be held on September 20-22,1999. Archeologists from
Myanmar and abroad will participated in the conference.

Apart from its importance for portraying rich Myanmar culture, glazed
ceramics is popular exported item for Myanmar entrepreneurs. 

0914-05 Myanmar Studies Japanese Style Cooperatives 
**A 4 member cooperative delegation left Yangon on 12th September to study
cooperative work there.

Japanese companies Mekon, ELTA and ICFO invited the delegation for a 15
days study tour in Japan.

Myanmar cooperative sector is transforming itself for competitive economy;
it has business of several kinds, ranging from fish breeding to banking.

0914-06 Myanmar Broadcast Technician To Train In U.S.A
A Myanmar broadcast technician is invited to attend the annual training
programme for broadcasters and journalist, to be held at the United Nations
Information Headquarters in U.S.A. The UN will train the broadcasters for
one month starting from 13 September to 21st October. 

0914-07 Myanmar Last Week
**Starting this edition of the Myabuzz, we are pleased to advise that we
will be including highlights of business events or news that happened in
Myanmar the preceding week.  

Monday, September 6: Network of gas pipelines will link three central
Myanmar cities soon. These 3 cities are Pyay, Myingyan and Mandalay.
Bidding is currently up for these pipelines supply and laying.

Tuesday, September 7: MEGA Product Ltd announced that it will be
distributing AKT-3, the latest anti-tuberculosis drug in Myanmar soon. 

Wednesday, September 8: Myanmar China signed a contract for building a new
paper mill in Mandalay, in central Myanmar. Several mills are being
developed now in Myanmar's second largest city, Mandalay.  

Thursday, September 9: Air Mandalay announced plans for increasing its
flights to Chiang-Mai, Thailand. The airline also announced special
promotions and discounts to locals as well as visitors to the country.

Friday, September 10: Malaysian tourists passed Myanmar and Thailand on
their way to Tibet, opening possibilities of land travel via these two
countries.
