New Bridge Accross Chindwin River

YANGON, September 18 - Myanmar's Chindwin River was the second largest
bridge across river after the Thanlyin Bridge, the official newspaper
The New Light of Myanmar reported Sunday.

Built at a cost of 2.28 billion Kyats (7.6 million U.S. dollars)
including foreign exchange, the 1,487-meter-long Hsinphyushin Bridge for
railway and motor traffic links Chaung U township in Sagaing division
and Yesagyo township in Magway division.

The inauguration of the bridge, which is also the first one across the
Chindwin River, facilitates transport between the east and the west
banks of the river.

The Hsinphyushin Bridge is reported to have been built in four years'
time ahead of schedule by the state-run Myanma Public Works and Myanma
Railways.

According to official statistics, Myanmar has built 114 bridges
including 12 major ones during the 11-year period from 1988 to 1999.
