The Sculpture of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi (The Nobel Prize Laureate) was
presented on September 24, 1999 by the famous Artist and Sculptor. James
R.McNalis at the Conference Room of the NCGUB(National Government of the
Union of Burma) and was accepted on behalf of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and
the peoples of Burma by Dr Sein Win, Prime Minister of the NCGUB. In
presenting the scuplture, Mr McNalis gave a long and magnificent speech
how he visited Burma and after personally witnessing the prevailing
horrible conditions in Burma and the Burmese peoples due to the
"hideous" military rulers, he decided to sculpture the portrait of Daw
Aung San Suu Kyi to identify her great courage, admirable beauty and
undaunted determination in the struggle for democracy and
is also meant to capture the warmth and sincerity of the peoples of
Burma

A detailed description of how he collected specimens from various
places such as Pagan, Inle Lake and other interesting spots in Burma
including some from the University Avenue where Daw Aung Suu Kyi
resides(including the horrible barricades) was given by Mr. McNalis.
More details and where the scupture will be kept can be obtained from
