Extra-judicial Killings Among Junta Troops
On 26 August 1999, 4 officers and men from company 4, Infantry Battalion
65
in Mongton were put in the guardhouse for drinking and fighting among
themselves.
They were.
1. Captain Than Htoon, 39 (Deputy company commander)
2. Sgt. Soe Thaung, 40
3. Cpl. Soe Than, 37
4. Pvt. Htun Hlaing, 30
The four were reported to have connived with the jailer, Mya Thaung, to
make an escape. But on their way to the Thai border, a disagreement
arose
among them, which resulted in Mya Thaung's killing of his fellow
deserters.
However, on his return to unit, he was tied up, beaten and dragged until
he
died of his wounds, reported Maihoong on 3 September.
