The prime minister of Singapore, Goh Chok Tong, says the countries of
south-east Asia still face huge economic and political challenges, even
though the worst of the financial crisis may seem to be over.
Addressing a meeting of trade ministers from ASEAN, Mr Goh said the
region's political stability would be a crucial factor in achieving a
full economic recovery.
He said the political transition in Indonesia -- the largest member of
the group -- posed threats to south-east Asia's economic resurgence.
He urged the ministers to step up reforms by implementing collective
measures.
