1008-01 Myanmar's Export To Malaysia Increases
**Myanmar's export figure with Malaysia for the first half of this year
stands at US$24.9 million. Myanmar export figure to Malaysia for the same
period last year was US$ 19.7 million.
Most of Myanmar's exports to Malaysia are fresh and preserved vegetables
(about 34% of the total export) as well as unfinished wood, and raw metals.
Both Malaysia and Myanmar are trying to promote the investment
opportunities in the ASEAN region as a whole, according to the Action plan
laid down at the 6th ASEAN Summit in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Amongst the range of plans for promoting investment opportunities, the
exemption of corporate taxes and adopting of simple custom regulations are
the prime factors to arrange.

1008-02 Yangon Mayor To Attend Regional Summit
**Yangon Mayor is attending 6th Asia Regional Exchange Summit in the
People's Republic Of China. The summit will be held in Nanjing, in eastern
Chinese province of Jiangsu from 8 to 11 October.
Last month the Yangon Mayor also went to China to attend the Myanmar Day
celebration at the on-going Horticulture Show in the southern Chinese
province of Yunnan. There he had explanation sessions about Myanmar's
commercial and trade activities.
Earlier this month Myanmar journalists attending the 50th anniversary of
the founding of People Republic studied the Tian Jin special economic
region.

1008-03 Indochina Regional Seminar On Economic Integration
**A Myanmar entrepreneur representing the Myanmar's Chamber of Commerce
will attend the regional seminar on Integration of Indochina into Global
Environment under the Forum for Comprehensive Development of Indochina.

The seminar will be held in Vietnam's second capital Ho Chi Minh City on 7
and 8 October.

Recently at the ASEAN Economic Ministers meeting, economic Ministers of
10-member nations agreed for gradually removing trade barriers within the
region. Myanmar and other Indochina countries Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia
are planning to reduce tariff on the goods imported from ASEAN countries in
stages. By the year 2018 the region will cut tariff to 0% on the ASEAN
imported goods.

1008-04 Speed Boats Commissioned To Service Coastal Region
**Myanmar 's southern coastal region will commission 8 speedboats for
passenger transportation.

The speedboat will link Mawlamyine, capital city of southern Myanmar and
towns in southern Taninthayi province including commercial cities like
Myeik and Kawthaung near the southern of Thai border.

The modern speedboats will alleviate the transportation problem and it's
also the key for the shipment of goods. Myanmar Southern most town of
Kawthaung and Thai province of Mei Sot has border trading links.
