Burma will be a "Democracy"

Htun Aung Gyaw:

What do we prefer, Chinese, Indian, or
European with their real names or in
their Burmese names? Looking at the
elite including the present SPDC
members, many of them would have family
names of Chinese or Indians if there are
less European names such a David Abel.
Actually the Union of Burma would be a
prosperous country if all citizens and
all people living in in the union are
comfortable with their names. Because of
xenophobic military and civilian Burman
leaders the Union of Burma retreat to
times of the past. Hun Aung Gyaw must
understand that his village mentality
has caused so much backwardness to the
peoples of Burma.

Prominant Burmese such as U Thant, U Nu,
Ne Win, Khin Nyunt should be able to
keep their family names and still be
accepted as leaders of the Union. As you
know U Nu has Chinese heritage, U Thant
has muslim Indian heritage, Khin Nyunt
is of Chinese heritage, and Ne Win has
Chinese heritage. If the educated
people of Burma use their long gone
family names we would have many Chinese,
Indian, or European family names and
this should not hinder them to take
leaderships like David Abel. So bad that
General Abel remains in the same rank
for the last ten years possibly because
of his obvious name. This is sad.
Although I wish that no general of the
army hold such important position in the
Union Government, which is destructive
to the country.

Htun Aung Gyaw,

Your attack against David Abel's name
caused me to read your message
several times. It did appear to be an
rather insensitive comment, considering
that many Burmese citizens have
non-burman names. Attacking Trevor
Edmond (whom I have never heard of
before) for bringing it up didn't help
either. If you wish to attack me, have
at it, but you will have to get in line.
